Storytelling with Data Visualization

when 27 July 2023 - 29 July 2023
language English
duration 1 week
fee EUR 45

Is a picture worth a thousand numbers? A good Data Visualization definitely is! Data Visualizations help us to communicate our insights effectively, make complex data more accessible and build a basis for decision making on important issues.
But to produce a good chart from data, some skills are necessary: Identify and highlight your key message, customize visual elements like colors, make it pretty, but not too pretty - to keep the focus of your audience on your insights. In this workshop, we will use these and other useful principles to produce elegant data visualizations step by step. We first gather some theoretical knowledge to structure our graphics, then apply it in the programming language R and learn some useful tricks with the ggplot package. There will also be time to talk about how to structure your storytelling in visualizations and reports depending on your audience and for your own mini-project at the end of the course. Basic knowledge in R, like from a beginners' course, is useful, but not necessarily needed.
