Ancient Greek for Philosophers
online course“Ancient Greek for Philosophers” is a series of online courses designed to help scholars of ancient philosophy better engage with the original Greek texts. Whether you have never studied ancient Greek or simply need to brush up and exercise your skills, our courses and reading groups mix language learning with philosophical discussion of important texts.
Our online Ancient Greek for Philosophers classes will run from Fall 2023 into Spring 2024.
There will be several levels of classes; Reading Greek for Philosophers focusing on Plato’s Euthydemus; Intermediate Greek focusing on translation and analysis of language used in Plato for those who have already done a Beginners Greek course of around 20 hours; and a complete Beginners Greek course for those who have no, or very little, previous knowledge of Ancient Greek.
Classes will run for 75 minutes each week for a total of 10 hours each block (Oct - Dec 2023 and Jan - April 2024).

Students of classical philosophy and Plato who want to engage with the texts in the original language.

Increase the ability to read Ancient Greek texts in the original and provide space for discussion of the philosophical ideas behind them
Fee info
EUR 120: 120 euros per course. A discount will be applied to those who sign up for two courses in Fall or one course in both Fall and Spring
