Through invoking the memory of an original, how can the past be actualized into the present? Under the mentorship of SPACE SALOON, this AAVS will probe deep into the meaning of making architectural covers, questioning ideas of authorship, meaning and originality. The first Eastern European AAVS of its kind, this interdisciplinary workshop will immerse participants in the historical and contemporary developments of Timisoara and offer a unique chance to impact current conversations related to public infrastructure, cultural development, and new forms of design and making.

Centered around the site of a former Timisoara government building, next to the Bega River, the program includes a series of multidisciplinary and exploratory workshops from local and international guests, as well as guided walks and tours through the city.

During the 10 day residency, participants will select an architectural ‘original’ from the specific urban landscape of Timisoara to re-contextualize through their own voice. Projects will be ideated, designed and produced on location, in-situ, in and around the abandoned villa. Working with Space Saloon’s ‘architecture of availability’ ethos, designs will deal with found materials, repurposed spaces and alternative processes, in order to expand the possibilities of creative making. Our Softcovers will be FEATURED IN THE TIMISOARA ARCHITECTURE BIENNIAL IN AUTUMN 2024, giving participants a direct opportunity to have their work presented at an international event.
