Discover (the) Dutch: Dutch Language and Culture
Dive head-first into the Dutch language, culture, history, and society. Work interactively in our state-of-the-art digital language lab to develop language skills and explore highlights of the country's history. Students use video, audio, and computer tools to participate in simulated conversations. By the end of two weeks students will have reached CEFR level A1. Students also learn about Dutch culture and society. In addition, students examine stereotypes associated with the Netherlands and its culture and place them in an historical context. By the end of the course, some of your preconceived ideas – about “liberal” Dutch attitudes towards drugs, sexuality, and immigration, for instance – might be in need of serious reconsideration!
An excursion to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam extends the learning beyond the classroom.
