This three-week studio based design programme will provide existing design students an introduction to postgraduate studies in architecture. The work of Patrick Geddes will feature as an exemplar of contemporary architectural and urban design propositions within Edinburgh.
This course is available to students with a demonstrable background in Architecture and/or Urban Design who are considering progressing their learning at a post-graduate level and wish to be involved in creative studio output. A high level of drawing skills will provide an excellent platform for obtaining the most out of this course. The course is open to those with different design sensibilities, but requires all students to fully participate with a high level of production.
In addition to possessing an undergraduate degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and/or Urban Design, applicants must also provide a portfolio of their own work for consideration.

Course aim

Students studying upon this course will gain an understanding of both the contemporary debates and scholarly traditions which surround the history, theory and design of buildings and cities.
Students will benefit from advanced methodological training in architectural design-led research and research-led design. This practice will enable students to acquire rigorous design and research skills, and develop the ability to relate architectural research to interdisciplinary fields of inquiry.
The course will also provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the theories of Patrick Geddes and other urban paradigms.
