Financial news is dominating the Headlines. The Financial and Banking system had and still have a great impact on the economic situation in the world. This course is a general introduction to Finance and Banking to help you understand better.

You will learn all about the basics of Finance, with a special focus on Banking. The main topics are: financial statements, ratio analysis, asset and liability management and accounting. After a general introductions you will explore specific issues and challenges and zoom in on the role of banking. The content will be offered through a mix of lectures, cases, a banking game and through site visits.
This course could either be followed as a separate 1-week course or as the first part of your intensive track on "Finance and Banking Today and in the Future", by combining it with ‘New Financing Models in a Changing World’.
Lecturers have extensive experience in the international financial world and in teaching Finance and Banking courses in an international environment.

Target group

Students from all levels (Bachelor and Master); a business programme background is not required. This course is for students who want to expand their knowledge of finance and banking. Especially for those students who want to follow the 2 weeks’ course ‘New Financing Models in a Changing World’, but who lack basic knowledge on Finance and Banking, this course is highly recommended as an introductory start-up.

Course aim

Basic finance and banking theory will be discussed. Also, the role of banks during the financial crisis and the new stricter requirements such as the Basel norms will be discussed. Students will be able to interpret bank balance sheets and gain understanding of the accounting system and ratio analysis.
