What are our options, talking about the concept of sharing ideas, learning what’s in the others’ head? What to do with knowledge management, competence management, collaboration and virtualization? In this course you are invited to study trends in digitalization (virtualization) of the workplace in relation to Enterprise Social Media (ESM), to do (literature) research on these topics, to interact with experts from iconic organizations and do some field research there, and to study the concept of Business Case in relation to ESM.

The concept of interaction is changing rapidly in the workplace. This asks for a redesign, or re-thinking of project management competences, re-thinking of social interaction competences, re-thinking of intellectual competences, emotional competences and the development of competences in general. Ludification is a contraction of two Latin words, ‘ludere’ which means ‘to play’ and ‘facere’ which means ‘to make’ so ludification is translated best as ‘to make into play’. Gamification is the most known element of ludification, but the concept is much broader than the usage of game thinking and techniques in a non-game environment. The idea is that ludification leads to fun, which should lead to better accomplishments, which in turn should lead to project success. We tell our children that they have to do their chores before they can go out and play, and what happens when doing your chores is fun to do?

Some issues to adress here could be:

What to do with social media? One can state that Social media is a part of life, at first in a private setting, and what can we learn from our own behavior, if we apply this behavior on our projects?
What are our options, talking about the concept of sharing ideas, learning what’s in the others’ head? What to do with knowledge management? What to do with competence management?

Training methods

In this course you are invited to study one of the trends in ludification, namely digitalization (virtualization) of the workplace in relation to ESM (Enterprise Social Media), to do a (literature) research on these topics, to interact with experts from iconic organizations like ABN AMRO, Siemens, Philips, Belastingdienst, ATOS, and Rijkswaterstaat (and study their use cases), and to study the concept of Business Case in relation to ESM.
We’ll be using an ESM tool ourselves (i.e. Microsoft’s Yammer) during the course, which hopefully will lead to all participants continuing to use this network as a knowledge database afterwards. As a platform to stay in contact, sharing ideas and inviting others to join and share.
