The Refugee Crisis and the European Union’s response: context, management and challenges

The course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the current refugee crisis, which will be examined from a range of disciplinary perspectives including law, sociology and political science. Classes will be given by professors and professionals in the field of refugee, asylum and migration from different European universities and organizations and will be complemented by practical exercises, debates and research work. All classes will be in English. At the end of course participants will be asked to write a report and will receive a certificate of participation.

The course content is divided into five themes:
1. The recent Refugee crisis in context
2. The EU refugee management system and its legal foundations. Need for change?
3. Field management of the crisis: hot spots and refugees protection
4. Narratives and discourses on the management of the refugee crisis
5. Critically rethinking refugee management: some proposals
