This course is for students who have an undergraduate degree in Architecture who are moving into their postgraduate education. This course can constitute a 20-credit optional module to be carried forward onto the MSc. This intensive 5 week studio based design course will use the city of Edinburgh as the backdrop to experiment and explore contemporary architectural and urban design. The course combines design work, exploratory fieldwork and interpretative theoretical research which will be delivered through seminars, lectures and creative production.

Course aim

Students will:

Develop an in-depth knowledge of the methodological and theoretical work of Patrick Geddes alongside other urban paradigms.
A critical understanding of current debates and historical work related to the theory and design or buildings and cities.
Acquire design, research and practice skills.
Develop an interdisciplinary approach to the study and practice of architecture and urban design.
