A compact 1-day course to get introduced to Mplus, a software package that allows structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, mixture modeling and other advanced techniques. Prerequisites Good working knowledge of multivariate analysis is assumed. Some knowledge of structural equation modeling is helpful, not mandatory. We recommend Kline (2005). If you expect to work with the software Mplus, this course can help you getting started. This course is a one day workshop on using Mplus, how to get the syntax running, how to interpret the output and what to do with error messages.

The models that we will run in Mplus are basic regression, confirmatory factor analysis and a simple structural models. So the course is not about analyzing complex models, but the main goal is to get you started.

The course starts with an introduction of structural equation modeling with a special emphasis on the specific way Mplus is used to specify and estimate models. A demonstration is given how Mplus syntax should be written and what common mistakes are. Furthermore we will discuss, in detail, the output of Mplus and what to do with it. We also discuss common encountered error messages and what to do with them. Finally, there is some time to play around with Mplus and perform your (first?) Mplus analysis.
