The course aims at qualifying for the strategic challenges related to new venture creation, to growth processes in young firms and to realising an exit (or continuing) with a venture. The course follows the typical life cycle of entrepreneurial ventures and the related (gestation) activities and qualifies for such activities. Students will be qualified to create or recognize new venture opportunities, evaluate opportunities, plan for new ventures, define strategic positions and business models, and establish and manage start-ups even “against all odds”.

Students will have the opportunity to leverage their social and methodological skills by discussing case issues and solutions with their peers and by applying methods designed for entrepreneurship. This course is not about business plan writing. Instead its perspective is on strategic challenges, management methods and resources all especially designed for new ventures.

The course will thus introduce and train students in entrepreneurial thinking and action. Students will qualify to comprehend the most useful and influential entrepreneurship theories and derive meaning from such theories for entrepreneurial practice.

The content includes but is not limited to opportunity creation or identification and evaluation, market entry, uncontested distribution channels, regional growth methodology, value creation, entrepreneurial finance and crowd investing, managing growth and exist strategies. The content includes the reflection of entrepreneurship theory, such like opportunity creation or recognition theory, theory of rule breaking behaviour, effectuation theory, theory of the structural hole, and resource related theories. Theories are reflected from the perspective of real case studies and how an understanding of the theory can enrich entrepreneurs’ abilities in new venture creation. The course will qualify participants in coping with various challenges associated with the stat-up of new businesses.
