Course aim

Each day will focus on a different theme and will combine presentations and interactive activities. The last 2 and half days will be for reflection, writing and presenting experiences - this will be the evaluation. Below you can briefly read about the topics we will focus on.

You will start to look at yourself in a more critical way. Who are you? Do you know yourself? Who are the others? Do you know what you want in life? How does the context affect you and how you see yourself and the others? What do you know? Which skills have developed so far and which ones do you believe you need to develop in the future, in order to reach your personal and professional goals?

Identify and take advantage of one’s style. What is your learning style? Is it always the same? Does it always depend on you or also on the subject? How can you better benefit from your learning style? Everyone has a different set of characteristics and responds differently to targets. Knowing your learning style will enable you to become a more effective learner and will give you an advantage in understanding how to motivate others around you (classmates and colleagues) and will help you to stay motivated.

What does your body language tell about you?
Are you aware of your body language?
Are you a good body language reader?
How can you take advantage of that, e.g. for a job interview?

Technology is there to assist us, but only if we know how to set objectives and prioritise our workload wisely.
The fundamentals of time management start with an understanding of the self and how we react to time-related stress. Learning how to prioritize will help you become more effective.

Effective communication is crucial in our personal and professional life successes. We need to understand and be understood, as well as we need to defend our positions, roles, and opinions, in order to feel accomplished and reach our goals. So answering some questions is key to improve our communication style and effectiveness.
What is communication? Why is it so important? Can you comfortably defend your point of view? Or do you feel that being assertive the same as being aggressive? How do others see me? How can you change that to your advantage? How to use assertiveness for better performance and career / personal success?

A good presentation contains a variety of elements, your core message being only one of them. A strong introduction, intelligent body language, and a logical structure are often more important than the verbal message you are trying to deliver!
We will address various elements you need to know in order to deliver an effective message: self-image, body language, rhetoric, and actual knowledge.

In our professional and personal lives we will often have to negotiate for something we want. From an early age we begin to negotiate, from ‘I will be good if I can have some cake’, and these skills become more and more vital in our lives.
Therefore, to be successful we must understand the negotiation process. Understand negotiation, understand cultural differences and ethics in all their subjectivity and its impact on successful negotiations.

Professional and personal skills do not exist in isolation from one another and are interlinked and applicable in a variety of situations.
Following on from our discussions on the topics mentioned above, you will get an opportunity to put all the newly acquired knowledge together and to practice your skills in the last few days.
