Introduction to Electrical and Electronic Engineering
The course participants will have the opportunity to gain an insight into life at one of the UK’s top universities and also show how varied and rewarding a career in Electrical and Electronic engineering can be and the pivotal role it plays in today’s technological advances.
The two week-long course is being run by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing in our modern building offering first class laboratory facilities. The course builds upon our very successful European summer school activities that have been run for a number of years with our international partners from Finland, Germany and Lithuania.
Course participants will experience lectures and hands-on challenges that provided a flavour of the academic side of undergraduate life.
The course adopts a hands-on approach to learning and covers a wide range of topics from the basic electronic principles to today’s technological advances.
Academic and practical sessions will cover the following topics:
•Analogue and Digital Electronics
•Microprocessor and Microcontrollers
•Computer Aided Design tools (Simulation, Printed Circuit Board and 3D Printers)
•Robotics and Autonomous Systems
•An Intelligent Robotic Vehicle project application
As a challenging and exciting concluding activity the participants will focus upon a group project involving the building of an intelligent Robotic Vehicle.
To facilitate learning students will be mentored by Academic and supported by Technical staff. Students will be taught in an interactive way with the combination of short lectures, hands-on activities and will be encouraged to engage in group project work and reflective practice.
The programme will also include social and cultural visits for all to participate in and to explore their surroundings with new friends from all around the world.
Participants will be required to have a basic understanding of electrical and electronic engineering.
As the programme is delivered in English, students will need a good level of English speaking, reading and writing skills. All participants must be aged 18 or above at the start of this programme.
