Complex Dynamics and Mating Habits of Polynomials
I will give an introduction to the iteration of complex polynomials, focusing on quadratic polynomials. I will give a short tour of the parameter space for quadratic polynomials (where the Mandelbrot Set lives). I will define the mating of two polynomials, which is a certain kind of gluing operation on the sphere. We will explore examples where the mating exists, and where it does not. There will be lots of fractal pictures and movies.

Familiarity with complex numbers and the complex plane. Point set topology.

Passing: Obligatory attendance at lectures, and completing the homework.
EUR 0: Participating the Summer School is free of charge, but student have to cover the costs of own travel, accommodation and meals at Jyväskylä.
The 26th Jyväskylä Summer School is not able to grant any Summer School students financial support.
