Dutch Language and Culture
Gezelligheid and stroopwafel. Do you know what these words mean? And how you pronounce them? If not, then you need a crash course in the Dutch language! Our full-package summer school (food & tent/ camping included in the price!) is a unique chance to learn more about Dutch language and culture. The crash course in Dutch will familiarize you with everyday expressions and basic phrases in the Dutch language. You will learn how to introduce yourself and how to answer questions about yourself (where do you live? who do you know?) as well as asking other people questions.
Entry level (CEF): participants have no prior knowledge of Dutch. Our summer school is focused on Bachelor’s students in their second to last or last year, and entry level Master’s students, but is also open for anyone with broad interests and an inquisitive mind.
The aim of the course is to help students find their way in everyday life in the Netherlands - in Dutch! By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases in order to meet daily practical needs;
- introduce themselves and ask and answer questions about where they live, the people they know and the things that they have;
- interact with other people in a simple way, provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
EUR 800: The base fee for attending the summer school is €800. The fee includes: A stay at the inspirational campus of the University of Twente, Course participation, course materials, a tent to sleep in (included: air mattress, flashlight, pillow and sleeping bag), WiFi, food (breakfast, lunch and evening meal) and coffee/tea.
For those not comfortable sleeping in a tent for a week, we offer different accommodations for additional costs (check our website).
Check the International Office of your University if scholarships are available.
