Architectural Design: Building the Welcome Hut

when 27 June 2016 - 8 July 2016
language English
duration 2 weeks
fee EUR 990

*Ages 13-17*

This workshop combines the practical aspects of design and the fun of construction with social awareness. The first step will be to compose the building brief; reasons for building a welcome shed for a hypothetical surge of runaways shall be analyzed. Possible uses and needs, like first aid, paperwork filling in, orientation and information, baby feeding etc, will be listed and evaluated. The next step will be to encourage the personal approach to the problem, by having each student compose his/her own idea. Issues of ecology, raw materials availability, economics of construction etc will be tackled as well. All individual approaches will be discussed and positively criticized and the most applicable ideas will be combined, for the final team project. The project will culminate, emphasizing collectivity and team work, in building a full-scale structure for real use.
