Science and Technology
Study for one, two, three or four weeks with a combination of Science and Technology subjects. At Nottingham Trent University our summer courses are delivered by experts who bring academic and industry experience to their subject, and you'll have access to the best facilities. Select from the following subjects:
> Adventures in Chemistry and Forensic Science - gain hands-on experience of carrying out preparative and analytical techniques at the cutting-edge of modern chemistry, across all major sub-disciplines of the subject from organic chemistry to the methods used for the analysis of drug samples in Forensic Science. All sessions will involve a laboratory based practical class followed by guided data analysis and interpretation in order to extend your knowledge and skills base.
> Practical Experiences in Sport and Exercise Science - gain experience of a range of techniques and research methods for analysing sports performance, from health and nutrition to the psychology and biomechanics of sports performance, which will enhance your understanding of important key concepts in the discipline and sports management industries.
> Robot Control with Mobile Apps - this courses will introduce you to the field of robotics and mobile interface programming. You will start by learning some basic programming and progress to programming mobile phones to create simple control interfaces. You will be introduced to the use of simulations and virtual environments for robot control. You will then be given the opportunity to develop a mobile app to control a robot.
> Statistics with R - skills in the analysis of large data sets are becoming increasing important in many careers, and this module aims to provide an introduction to the basis of such analytical methods. It will provide students with an introduction to the statistical principles and statistical methods required for the analysis of data emerging from various disciplines, including Biosciences. The module introduces R programming language and its applications for initial exploration and visualisation of data and for predictive modelling. This course includes hands-on labs to familiarize students with the concepts taught.
> Techniques in Molecular Biology - gain hands-on experience of carrying out molecular biology techniques at the cutting-edge of modern biosciences. Sessions will include laboratory based practical classes and computer-based workshops with guided data
analysis and interpretation in order to extend your knowledge and skills base. The aims of this module are to introduce you to the techniques involved in DNA and RNA detection and analysis, in vitro protein production, and associated Bioinformatics
You might also want to mix and match courses from other disciplines, including Architecture, Art and Design, Business, Law, Education, English as a foreign language, and Social Sciences.
The courses will broaden your skills and knowledge and introduce you to new ways of thinking, and you'll also learn more about Nottingham and NTU as contemporary places to live and study.
Our programme allows you to deepen your subject knowledge or broaden your interests. You can get to know our faculty, connect with projects, and practice what you have learnt through activities in and around Nottingham.
