International TV Drama / Edinburgh International Festival

when 8 August 2016 - 26 August 2016
language English
duration 3 weeks
fee GBP 2950

This course will facilitate transnational co-operation in the development of original international TV drama, by enhancing skills among students seeking to work in TV through a multi-centred, multicultural approach, with a view to jointly developing original TV drama concepts that will be pitched to leading figures within the TV industry from Europe and beyond.

In an era of TVIII, programmes are broadcast online across boundaries, and the ‘glocalisation’ of TV drama is becoming increasingly prevalent. Already, a number of indigenous TV drama productions attract high audiences across the world as viewing content can be increasingly customised and disseminated through new digital technologies. Students on the course can develop original TV series, adapting their ideas to different regional realities, creating multilingual and translated equivalents and exploring the possibilities of a multicultural European TV platform.

Key activities:
Students will explore and improve: writing concepts and skills; the TV marketplace within Europe and beyond; digital platforms; cultural and linguistic translation. The final week will consist of attendance at the Edinburgh International TV Festival (included in the price).

Social Programme:
As with all GCU International Summer School courses, participants will experience a comprehensive social programme consisting of various events and excursions, showcasing the best of Glasgow and Scotland as both study and tourist destinations.
