Target group

The course has been designed for students who study pharmacy at their home university and would be interested in acquiring first-hand professional and personal experiences in a European country with a different culture and healthcare system.

Course aim

The aims of the course include the following:

1. Facilitate an understanding of the history of the host country, with specific details on the health-care system thereof.
2. Outline of the societal principles underlying healthcare with special attention to the host country.
3. Develop an understanding of the host country’s political landscape; both domestic and international, with special emphasis on issues related to healthcare.
4. Outline the role of pharmacists in the delivery of health-care in the host country within the following areas:
a. Institutional practice;
b. Community practice;
c. Specialty (clinical) practice
5. Compare and contrast the pharmaco-therapeutic approach to several common disease states of the host country with that practiced in the US.
6. Describe pharmacy education in the host country, contrasting it with that available in the US.
7. Outline patient expectations of pharmacy services in the host country.
