Comparative Perspectives of Early Years Education
Comparative perspectives of preschool and early elementary education are examined through relevant studies, articles and observations of Finnish classes. In the beginning of the course the framework for comparative education is introduced and curriculum comparisons of several countries are conducted. The curriculum and instructional practices in Finland are considered through observations and related research. As a course work students prepare an essay of preschool and early elementary education in some particular countries using relevant literature, journal articles or observation material.
Bachelor and Master students
The course enhances student's understanding of the current policies and practices in preschool and early elementary education in different countries. Students will develop their basic conceptual and methodological understanding and skills for applying systematic comparisons in the field of preschool and early elementary education. The course improves student’s critical understanding of the relationship of educational systems and policies in cross-cultural contexts.
