when 23 January 2017 - 3 February 2017
language English
duration 2 weeks
credits 6 ECTS
fee EUR 450

The course aims to provide experimental alternatives to traditional urban research methodologies and understanding, by bridging the gap between urban/spatial practice and art.
You will be introduced to notions of contemporary global urbanism, as well as with tools to develop independent urban research, and how to represent findings through video art.
You will be equipped with a nuanced and deep understanding of current urbanism trends from all around the globe and urban theory. You will be able to develop the ability to express well-structured original urban research through video, both filmed with phones and found footage, and edited with widely available software.
The program mixes theory, with hands-on ‘studio work’, as well as visits to different locations in the region of Vienna. The examination of the course will be done through Project Work: the production of a video that raises an urban question/situation.
This course is aimed at people with interests in architecture, urbanism, video art and sociological research.
Benefits: by the end of this course you will have an in-depth understanding of how to read and understand different urban contexts as well as provide solutions for them. You will be able to express your ideas through experimental video-art techniques.
Let’s explore today the city of tomorrow.
