Data Science for Everyone Compact

Due to the current pandemic Kempten International Summer School will take place as a digital compact format in 2021. It will be conducted exclusively digitally via ZOOM. Group work will take place in ZOOM breakout rooms.

In virtually every subject people need to work with large amounts of data nowadays. In our Summer School you will receive a hands-on introduction to data science and get familiarized with very useful tools, in particular the free software "R". In our digital 4-day compact program you will see that "R" is both easy to learn and very practical, in particular when you do not have a background in Computer Science. You will do a lot of practical training while supported by tutors and referents and you will work on practical case studies. Benefit from intercultural competence through cooperation with students from all over the world. We organize a very special digital side program which will make it easy to get into contact with your fellow participants, to get insights into Kempten, Bavaria and German everyday life and of course we would love to have a lot of fun together.

Please organise two devices for your participation, as you will follow the interactive lecture on one computer and do your own programming on the other.

Target group

Bachelor students of all study programs, in particular technical or economics degree programs from the end of the first academic year. Master students and PhD students of all study programs are of course also welcome. Previous knowledge in Data Science is not required.

Course aim

You can run your own little analysis in "R" and present your own case study. You know how to go from one simple source format to multiple possible output formats, like e.g. HTML, PDF and MS-Word, using "R Markdown". You are informed about some of the lastet trends as well as about some strategies to defend yourself against the possible misuse of big data algorithms. You benefited from lots of practical exercices with the support of our tutors in ZOOM breakout rooms.
