The Porto Summer School on Cinematic Art presents itself as a state-of-the-art week with the participation
of renowned artists and filmmakers working on contemporary cinema and/or contemporary art. Its main
goal is to gather, in the city of Porto, and during a week, a privileged 15 participants with artists, filmmakers and
critics, scholars and curators. The course will provide conceptual resources of contemporary creation, in
particular with the use of digital cinema resources for capturing images and sounds, and for exhibition models in
exhibition spaces.

Course aim

Every day, the participants will work closely with one artist in specific hands-on exercises. At the afternoon, there will
be a conference with a scholar; and, at night, a screening of a film by each artist. Each day will take place in various
cultural spaces of the city and the region (Serralves, Oliva Creative Factory, Cinema Passos Manuel, Teatro Rivoli).The Porto Summer School on Cinematic Art will include the opening of two exhibitions: Salomé Lamas at the School of Arts (June 18
th); and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s
The Serenity of Madness, at Núcleo de Arte Oliva Creative Factory (June 22nd). The Summer School will end in the Summer Solstice, on June 23rd, when Porto city celebrates an all night party for “São João” (Saint John’s Day).
