This is an intensive five-day summer school that is designed to use drama games, exercises, skills and techniques to help improve your English language skills. This course offers a specialised approach to gaining language confidence through drama activity. It aims to be playful and holistic, making learning language memorable and useful.

Course leader

Katja Riek MEd
Visiting Lecturer in German and English Language
Katja has been a language teacher with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland since 2005.

As a Visiting Lecturer, she teaches English to international students and German to singers.

Target group

The course is suitable for you if you are age 17 plus and want to improve your English language in a creative way, for use in an arts or cultural setting, to support a move into an English-speaking education or training or just gain language skills in an unusual and imaginative way.

Course aim

The use of drama to help develop language skills is an established but not yet widespread teaching methodology. We are delighted to introduce this concept at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as part of the summer schools programme in 2012.
By the end of the short course, students should be able to:

• demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary

• use of that vocabulary in a greater number and
variety of settings

• show more confidence in using English well

• use the English language intellectually, emotionally and culturally

• use your body and voice to enhance your ability to communicate well in English
