Course I - Intensive German and Cultural Studies

Conversation and Cultural Studies I (Option I)
In this course, participants will have a number of opportunities to practice speaking. Everyday communication (e.g., shopping, ordering food, finding one's way, travelling) will be practised through role plays, short interviews, short presentations, dialogues, and simple discussions. In addition, participants will learn how to convey their communicative needs (e.g., preferences, assumptions and opinions, cultural differences). Based on these topics, relevant vocabulary and idioms will be taught.
Special emphasis will be placed on speaking in authentic situations (projects, e.g., going through the city and answering questions), intercultural learning, and acquiring cultural awareness of Germany and Bavaria.

Conversation and Cultural Studies II (Option II)
In this course, participants will focus on gaining cultural awareness of Germany by conversing, reading, and writing. The goal of this course is to help students improve their vocabulary and gain confidence while speaking and while discussing interesting cultural studies topics. Participants will be able to help choose the topics discussed during this course. Current topics about Germany will serve as the impetus of discussions, whereby the intercultural component is of primary concern.
Although the language levels of course participants will vary, the primary goal of this course is to allow students to expand their personal communication skills by giving short presentations and working in small groups.

Target group

We recommend this course to students and professionals who have an interest in the German language and experience with the German culture.
Language requirements: elementary or intermediate proficiency in German corresponding to at least level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
