Course aim
What might the "Self" and the "Other" be – and what is the role of art in this context? In the group, we will discuss old and new forms of representing the Self and the Other; starting with images from prehistory, we will try to create associations with futuristic forms of representation. We will visit the archaeological department of Salzburg Museum, deal with texts on the 'uncanny' and study representations from the genre of Science Fiction. This wide, suspense-laden range will provide the starting-point and the source for our artistic production. We will draw with pencils, and make 2- and 3-dimensional collages, paper sculptures and small works in clay.
During the course, students' works will be discussed both one-to-one and in the group. At the end of the course we will try as a group to develop an overall context for the final exhibition.
