Course aim
Why not try to create a strategic diagram for non-hierarchical participatory radical democracy? It is a kind of strategic road-map that also tries to answer the question: What is our practice actually about? When I talk about "us", I mean all mediators: curators, artists, cultural producers, activists, political “hacktivists,” revolutionaries, ontological anarchists, historians, social scientists and so on – anybody, in short, who is thinking about the possibilities of transforming the system.
After the lecture on my practice I will present the diagram (http://ahmetogut.com/ahmetwebdiagram.html), and I will show a few examples of artworks, non-artworks and other references. I thought it might be interesting to think together about this diagram, from a critical perspective. It can be a kind of practice board (tabula) for exchanging critical ideas.
Students will work together in small groups to re-make the diagram with their own ideas, strategies and references from art, literature, social movements or political theory, to be presented by each group of students as a collaborative lecture-performance at the end of the course.
Parallel to this, I will have one-to-one meetings with each participant and ask them to develop a "sculpture in motion" at the end of the course. It is a concept of imagining a sculpture in social, counter-financial and after-life contexts in conversation or collaboration with the public.
