Due to the current situation relating to COVID-19, the face-to-face realisation of the summer school becomes impossible.
For this reason and in order to safeguard the safety and health of everyone involved, it has been decided that the summer school will take place online.

The tuition fees amount to EUR 100,00 for students of all levels and EUR 150,00 for jurists and health professionals for entries up to May 15th, 2020.

The Laboratory for the Research of Medical Law and Bioethics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) announces the organisation, in cooperation with Hellenic National Bioethics Commission and through the Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, of the 5th International Summer School of Medical Law and Bioethics on “Human Rights in Health”.
The Summer School, which will take place between the 5th and the 11th of July 2020 in Thessaloniki, will be conducted in English, by faculty members and doctoral students from AUTh and from other universities in Greece and abroad, as well as by specialised jurists and doctors.

Course aim

This is a summer school of 40 teaching hours, during which will be analyzed topics such as:
The right to health in EU (human rights) law/ Protection of patients’ rights/ Human rights and clinical research/ The Hippocratic Oath in 2020/ Human rights and healthcare: universality vs national margin of appreciation/ Refugees’ and prisoners’ related health rights/ Medical assistance for mentally ill persons/ Jurisprudence of ECtHR: HIV-positive detainees/ Reproductive health: new possibilities and potential risks/ Access to termination of pregnancy: medico-ethical challenges/ Reproductive rights and family planning/ Jurisprudence of the ECtHR/ Opt – in / opt – out systems in postmortem organ donation for transplantation. Rights of patient, family and society?/ Is there a legal right to die?/ Palliative care: dying with dignity/ Jurisprudence of the ECtHR/ Human rights in artificial intelligence in medicine/ Robotic pharmacy/ Smart hospitals: the future for care provision?
