Duke-Leiden Institute in Global and Transnational Law
-- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this Institute might be organised online --
Organised by Leiden Law School and Duke Law School, the Duke-Leiden Institute in Global and Transnational Law is a one-month programme providing a strong foundation for those interested in international and comparative law as well as for those planning to study law in the United States. Courses are taught by lecturers from both schools and will focus on subjects such as trade governance, human rights, comparative criminal law and American law.
The programme is divided into 2 two-week terms. All courses are taught in English and all (except for Introduction to American Law) are taught by faculty members from different legal cultures, exposing participants not only to comparative law studies but also to different teaching methods.
Carsten Stahn, Professor of International Criminal Law & Global Justice, Leiden University
Rachel Brewster, Jeffrey & Bettysue Hugues Professor of Law, Duke University
The Institute is aimed at students who have completed at least three years of law study, students preparing to study for an LLM degree in the United States, and other advanced law students from all countries. The Institute also welcomes judges, academics, practitioners, and other professionals seeking knowledge of American, international, and comparative law to apply for the programme.
This one-month Institute aims at providing a strong foundation in international and comparative law for both students and young professionals.
American law students who achieve appropriate final examination results normally will be able to receive academic credit from their home institutions, and students from other institutions might also be able to obtain academic credit depending on the policies of their institution. Students are responsible for obtaining approval from their own law schools to transfer credit.
