The intensive, interdisciplinary International Study Program explores the topic of “Sustainability and Innovation in Engineering”. This online course surveys recent technological developments in four smaller units dedicated to different research areas: Energy, E-Mobility, Agriculture, and Materials. The accompanying cultural module “Living Society” contextualizes the innovation trends explored in the units in terms of German society, culture and history.
The program is designed for students from various fields of engineering and agricultural science. In this international program, international students participate together with students of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, enabling intercultural exchange and offering an unforgettable international experience.

Target group

The course is designed for (undergraduate) students from the United States and Canada, as it fits usually fits in the semester and exam schedule.

Course aim

Through theoretical input, discussions, group work, and digital excursions, students gain a comprehensive view of innovation processes which transcend disciplinary borders and deepen their understanding of the role and scope of their own discipline therein. Students, who have successfully completed the course, have a basic understanding of renewable energy technologies, e-mobility, autonomous driving, innovative agricultural technologies in a digital transformation process, iron and steel production, and polymer technology. Furthermore, they are able to discuss, in oral and written form, current research and developments with regard to innovation and sustainability within these fields, as well as similarities and differences between the Germany and their own country in these areas.
