Digital technology has developed rapidly in recent years and is currently revolutionising the financial sector. The development and use of technical innovations poses new challenges to the various fields of law and raises specific legal issues. This class aims at introducing the students to a number of legal questions around FinTech, „big data“ and artificial intelligence. We combine some technical background with the most salient legal issues. Among these we count Data Protection, Copyright Law, Criminal Law, Anti-Discrimination, Banking Regulation and the Impact on Government and Society. The class will comprise lectures, group works and exercises.

The course comprises 28 contact hours (8*3.5 hours). Upon successful completion, 4 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) points will be awarded for the module. A single ECTS point is defined as the equivalent of 25 to 30 hours of student workload. This includes class hours, additional preparations for class activities, readings, assignments as well as final assessments.

Attendance: Participants have to attend at least 80 % of the classes.

Students with at least one year of studies in the field of Law.
