About

Your educational summer experience to climate-adaptive, high-performance and sustainable architecture.
Join an international community of forward-thinking students and professionals for an intensive deep dive into the future of sustainable built environments.

GBS delivers state-of-the-art expertise in:
β€’ Climate-adaptive design & resilient building strategies
β€’ Net-zero and nearly zero-energy building (nZEB) concepts
β€’ Passive House standards & high-performance envelope design
β€’ Circular construction and low-carbon materials
β€’ Sustainable urban systems & climate-resilient, social city planning
β€’ Renewable energy integration and smart building technologies

With contributions by over 30 renowned Austrian experts, the program combines lectures, hands-on workshops, and site visits to Vienna’s pioneering climate-sensitive buildings, showcasing real-world innovations in decarbonized and adaptive architecture. At the core of the program is an interdisciplinary design studio, where participants co-create solutions for a real project site in Vienna, applying advanced methods such as building performance simulation, life-cycle assessment (LCA), and climate comfort tools. Enjoy an included accommodation in a certified Passive House guesthouse, plus: stay an extra week free of charge after the program. Social, cultural and leisure activities included, such as a bike tour and waltzing class.

If you want to level up your expertise, expand your global network, and shape the buildings of tomorrow, mark your calendar - applications open in January!

Course leader

GBS is collaboratively organized by OeAD student housing together with leading Austrian partners: BOKU Vienna, TU Wien, University of Vienna, Danube University, FH Technikum Vienna, Austrian Institute of Technology as well as Reinberg Architekten ZT

Target group

The target groups of the summer program are architects, urban and energy planners, constructors, building and civil engineers as well as students and professionals from similar fields in the construction environment. We also invite people with background in resource planning, ecology, and landscape planning to apply. The focus lies on students and professionals; we welcome everybody, who wants to learn in an intercultural and multidisciplinary field of like-minded people in the great environment of Vienna!

Course aim

The overall aim of the course is to transfer Austrian expertise in sustainable building to an international audience and generate awareness for future-proof building. Students develop long-lasting know-how about how to build in a climate-friendly and resource efficient way. This naturally includes the integration of ecological aspects and new technologies, such as circular economy, digitalization, positive energy districts and many more. The program gives participants a unique opportunity to learn about specialized content from an interdisciplinary point of view, in an international and multicultural setting
