This online summer course will stimulate international collaborations between students from Brazil and Leiden. The course will provide an introduction to the use of big data analysis in health and disease. The programme, including theory and practical modules, will focus on diverse hospital data, “omics data” and application thereof in prediction, prognosis and understanding of disease. Students will have the opportunity to interact with each other in culturally diverse groups.

Target group

The summer school is aimed at students who have completed at least a BA in a relevant field, masters students and entry level PhD’s.

Course aim

The programme addresses 3 distinct but linked research topics (Big Data, Infections diseases and Data Sciences) and it is divided into 2 weeks: – first week includes lectures by experts in the field s of Big data, Omics and data visualization, from both Brazilian and Leiden academia, - second week you will apply the knowledge into practice during interactive assessment. All courses are taught in English by researchers from University of São Paulo., Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Albert Einstein Hospital, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR), Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás, LUMC and Leiden University researchers, exposing participants not only to a broad view on data science in health but also to different teaching methods.
