The 3rd Summer School on Emerging Architectures and Key Technologies for 5G Networks (Aegean-NetCom2017) organized by the University of the Aegean in Samos island, provides a unique educational experience to participants, as they will be able to interact and familiarize with academics and researchers of the University of the Aegean and the collaborating Universities, Research Institutes and Enterprises across Europe. The presenters have novel and innovative work in the field of networking technology with participation in national and international projects and publications in top-ranked journals. During the Summer School, a cross-sectoral scientific approach will be developed, composed primarily of the disciplines that need to be studied so as to proceed in the design and afterwards the development of devices and systems that will inevitably lead to the implementation of the 5G Networks.

The topics covered by the AegeanNetCom Summer School include a wide span of communication and network technologies for implementing the 5G Networks, under the following thematic areas:
• Dense & Access Networks
• MIMO & mm-Wave Band Systems
• Smart Energy Grid & Smart Cities
• Cloud & IPv6 Networks
• LTE-Advanced & VoLTE Network Implementations
• Network Virtualization & Software Defined Networks
• Spectrum Management & Bandwidth Brokerage
• Network Technologies & Management
• Cooperative Technologies

Aegean-NetCom will host several closely related lectures, workshops, labs and round tables bringing together students, scientists, researchers, professors, engineers and service providers to exchange and share their experiences and new ideas focusing on research and innovation results under the theme ‘The 5G Breeze’.

Through the courses, all the attendants will have the ability to learn about the future trends in networking technology and empower their knowledge that will give them the opportunity to focus on a specific technological subject included on the wider field of networking.

Course leader

Dr. Demosthenes Vouyioukas, Associate Professor at the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering of the University of the Aegean in Samos.

Target group

The Aegean-NetCom Summer School is open to undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and professionals in the field of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information and Communication Technology, who are interested in a comprehensive overview and broad coverage of the forthcoming “5G Network”. Successful candidates must show a promising academic or business track in the scientific areas of the Summer School.

Course aim

The aim of the Aegean-NetCom Summer School is to enable and motivate participants to involve in innovative and novel networking architectures and technologies, such as the aforementioned topics. Consequently Aegean-NetCom will offer additional skills towards shaping a successful graduate, a successful researcher and inevitably a professional with strong awareness around the area of 5G Networking.
