New Monitoring Technologies for Near Fault Observatories (NFO)

The focus is on the Irpinia “Near Fault Observatory” (NFO), implemented a long time ago in the region that experienced one of the largest earthquakes in the Mediterranean and now one of the best monitored areas of Italy.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice the potential of optical fiber monitoring, real time full-GNSS, installation of multiple nodal-arrays, and work on up to date seismological analyses.

Course aim

You will get an overview of the newest monitoring technologies for small scale fault systems, focusing on the Irpinia Near Fault Observatory (NFO).

The school topics will range from optical fiber monitoring, real time full-GNSS, installation of multiple nodal-arrays, and up to date seismological analyses.

Every day the theoretical lessons will be followed by the installation of the instruments, data collection in the field in small groups and seismic analysis in collaboration with experts.

The last part of the week is dedicated to visit the Irpinia NFO headquarter in University of Naples. Participants will have the opportunity to follow the complete data collection process in one week: from the installation of the instruments to the seismic analysis.
