About

The participants of the summer school, organised by the Hans and Marlene Farmont Foundation, are
invited to spend time with other young people from Europe on a ten-day sailing trip in Turkey and
Greece. On the foundationโ€™s sailing boat, the participants receive the opportunity to discuss current
European topics, forge meaningful connections, and test the idea of collaboration while in a confined
space. The foundation covers all costs related to the programme, such as food, accommodation, and
transportation.
As one of five participants, accompanied by a skilled crew, you will gather invaluable sailing
experience whilst exploring the mesmerising Turkish coastline and the stunning Greek islands. With
the aid of thought-provoking panel discussions, each participant is given the opportunity to exchange
their thoughts, ideas, and engage in enlightening debates. Throughout our summer school, we will
ask our fellows to ponder the question of what it means to rely on each other, sail together, and share
the responsibility of shaping a brighter future for Europe.

This year the Farmont Foundation offers two sailing trips, which will take place from late August until
mid-October (1. Trip: 18. - 27.09.2025 and 2. Trip: 07. - 16.10.2025). You can choose which trip you
would like to be a part of while completing the application form which can be found on our website (https://summerschool.farmont-stiftung.de/).
The central theme for discussion in 2025 will be โ€žSmall Acts, Big Impactโ€œ

Course leader

Milena Wichert

Target group

Applications are open to anyone currently in education (academic or vocational), as well as young
professionals between the ages of 18 and 25, whose main place of residency is Europe (all current
and potential member states of the European Union). To be considered for a place on our course prior
evidence of civic engagement is required, for example in the form of volunteer work, as well as a basic
knowledge of the English language and a commitment to sail with our team

Course aim

Achieving unity can only be possible if we bring people from across Europe together to share their own diverse backgrounds and build a community. It is for this reason that we provide a platform for an essential dialogue among European youths during our summer school on the foundation's sailing boat
